Special Services

Welcome to the special services page. We believe that school/family partnerships are key to student success. Providing information to parents allows them to meaningfully participate in their children's education. This page was created to give parents, teachers, and community members important information about the special education and support services in District 57. If you have any additional questions after reviewing this website, please contact Cassie Black, Director of Student Services, at cblack@d57.org or 847-394-7300 x 1016.

The Northwest Suburban Special Education Organization, in partnership with Mount Prospect District 57 and its other member districts, conducts an annual needs assessment of parents, general and special education staff, and administrators. An annual needs assessment is required of all recipients of the federal funds provided through the Individuals with Disability Education Act (IDEA).

As a district, we embrace the opportunity to collaborate with parents, as we believe that no one knows your child better than you do. Parents bring an insight to the IEP team that is invaluable. By looking at a wide range of perspectives about a child, we are able to get a complete picture of a student’s strengths and needs and are able to develop a truly “individualized” plan.
